A friend and helper to business owner, Gaye Honeycutt, Chris Stine, looks over the guest book in the Onyx Store, which just recently reopened. A favorite destination for locals and travelers in the area of the Kern River Valley. The store was built in the mid-1800's. They had a custom guest book made, to keep track of the visitors names, the date they visited the old landmark, and the city they are from.

Bill Trotts, was the first lunch customer on Friday, September 3, at the Onyx Store, which just reopened recently after being closed since 2001. It was opened by Gaye Honeycutt, who owns the business, but not the property. It was built in the mid 1800's and has been a popular spot for locals and travelers for many years. It will be opened right now, Friday through Saturday, from 11-3. It is located about 15 miles east of Lake Isabella, along Highway 178 in Onyx. The store was originally started by William Scodie, who died in the late 1800's.
